Our Stained Glass
Our stained glass was created and installed by Higgins and Associates of Virginia and features an eight foot round window in the chancel (the Means of Grace window), three side windows (the Trinity windows) and fourteen clerestory windows (the Vine and Branches windows).
The artist for the windows was created by Mark Haisman of the Higgins Studios, who worked with the Committee for Stained Glass from Grace Lutheran Church to develop the concepts that led to these finished designs.
The supreme window is the circle or rose window above the altar. It is the window which describes the name of the congregation -- GRACE -- by displaying the means of grace through which Christ comes to us with the riches of His grace and connects us to the Father, the means through which the Spirit works. In this window you find the Shell and Drops of Water for Baptism, the Chalice and Host for the Eucharist, the Word, the Office of the Keys (Confession and Absolution) and the stole (for the Ministry of Word and Sacrament).

THE TRINITY WINDOWS adorn the left side of the Sanctuary (as you face the altar). The first window is the Holy Spirit window which portrays the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, surrounded by the water and displayed over the world. It symbolizes the Spirit's hovering over the deep at Creation and the Spirit's presence in the water of Baptism. The outline of the globe reminds us of the role of the Spirit in calling many nations to become one people in Christ. The drops of blood represent the seven gifts of the Spirit. Behind the Spirit are small flames to recall Pentecost and the flames which danced on the heads of the Apostles as the Holy Spirit was imparted to them according to Jesus' promise.
The second window is the Father window which portrays the Father in the form of an arm and hand reaching down from heaven. Again, water and the green of earth are under the hand as a reminder of the Father's creation of all things. On either side are the Commandments given to Moses on Sinai. The all-seeing eye, while not always a comfortable symbol, reminds us that God sees and knows all things. The small white stars remind us of the Father's holding creation (heaven and earth) in His hand while the lightening bolts remind us of the power He displays in nature.
The third window is the Spirit window which portrays the Son as the worthy Lamb of the Book of Revelation, once sacrificed in death on the cross, He is now alive forevermore, the Victor over sin and death. He stands on the Word (He is the Word made flesh and He has endowed His Word with the power to do what He promises). The Lampstands remind us that He is the Light of the World (two for His two natures -- divine and human). This Jesus is framed by the outline of the temple where He is the Light and where, here on earth, He comes to us in Word and Sacrament.
THE CLERESTORY WINDOWS on either side of the clerestory are filled with the symbols of the faith and are tied together by the vine and branches and cross found in each of the fourteen windows.
The images of the clerestory windows include a vine and branches that flow
through all the windows, a cross which is the signature element common to all
windows, and a symbol which is representative of Scripture and Christian tradition.

Our Sanctuary Dedication
Grace Lutheran Church dedicated a 20,000 square foot addition on to the 12,000 square foot facility. The new portion of the building houses a Sanctuary seating over 400 with a 60 rank pipe organ, 11 classrooms (5 designed with the Preschool in mind), a large entry and gathering area, and a new administrative office suite. The previous buildings (including a sanctuary, classrooms and offices) have also been renovated. When complete the fellowship hall will be slightly larger with a reconfigured kitchen and storage area.
The old Sanctuary has become a chapel seating about 60, a choir suite, and the rest of the space is used for adult education and adult Sunday school. The dedication of the new building took place November 11, 2001, and the new organ was dedicated in October of 2002 and featured Crystal Cathedral organist Christopher Pardini with a standing room only crowd.
