The Augsburg Confession
The Augsburg Confession is a document that outlines what Lutherans believe, teach, and confess. It was presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530, in order to prove that Lutheran teachings were consistent with historical Christian doctrine and to hopefully promote religious unity within the Roman Empire. It is considered the primary confession of faith for the Lutheran church. Authored mainly by Philip Melanchthon, its point was to clarify Lutheran beliefs and defend them against misrepresentations and separate them from other radical reformers.
